Cache settings in IE

This article explains why the Every visit to the page and Automatically don’t have dramatic differences.

Essentially, if the cache copy is fresh (based on the “Expires” set in the header) no request is issued by the browser. Only when the cache is stale or no cache-directives are present do you get the conditional request (which is a “send me the content if it’s changed since X date” type of request).

So, by properly setting cache headers you can get a cached version even if IE has the setting of “every visit to the page”
