SpringNote – an online notebook

Back a few months ago I was looking for a way to keep notes about what I have been doing on the various projects I work on.  An engineering notebook if you will.  I opted for a paper notebook.  You have probably seen it.  It is always open on my desk in front of me.

When I was looking I found one promising notebook called SpringNote.  It is an on-line notebook based on a wiki.  They have gone through another revision and it looks pretty good.  This is another one of those web 2.0 ideas that I don’t understand in terms of “How are they making money?”  but is cool.

You can have a Personal or group notebook.  The group notebook is intended to be worked on by several people.  They include page templates for straight test, calendars, group scheduling, etc.

It is also a site that uses OpenID so if you have wanted to try that and see how a site handles OpenID I think they have done a good job.  I had signed up before with just a username and password and this time logged in with my OpenID from Verisign Labs and based on the email it loaded my notebook from before.  (At least I think that is what happened. Maybe I used OpenID last time.)

I’ve been wanting to do something very simple with Drupal blogging to accomplish something similar, and far less fancy. With Drupal access controls and blog mechanisms, it should be a snap. However, I did not see anything in SimpleNote about the ability to draw (as in MS Paint), collaboratively or not. I’d like to be able to do this when taking notes. Did you see anything like this?

This company was one of the big sponsors of the Web 2.0 Expo. They shelled out a lot of money for a big Expo floor display. They’re based out of South Korea.
